– EMBRACING EMERGENCE CHRISTIANITY – Room 12
“Emergence Christianity 101” – Re-think
Church? Re-think theological education? A time of
shifting religious paradigms? A reformation of
Christian life and understandings? Transformation?
What’s happening within our faith tradition in the 21st Century? The
voices are many and the conversation about what’s emerging within Christianity
is growing. Phyllis Tickle, observer of religion and spirituality and author of
many books, suggests that every five hundred years or so the Christian faith
holds a “rummage sale.” What’s accumulated over the centuries is sorted, with
some things discarded and others preserved. This
sorting process occurred during The Great Collapse of the Roman Empire
around 500 CE, at the time of The Great Schism around 1000, and during
The Great Reformation around 1500. Now, it’s our time! The current “rummage sale” has been called
“The Great Emergence.” What’s it all about and how will you be part of the
conversation? Join Seekers for a DVD curriculum featuring Phyllis Tickle, Embracing Emergence Christianity.
Listening
for God – Room 6
Where do you listen for God? Through selected stories
and essays from contemporary literature, this class has found a way to find God
in surprising places and talk about their experiences of the Divine. The class reads
a short story for each session and enjoys conversation. If you would like to
join this group, you may request an electronic copy of each week’s writing. See
Kay Antinoro for more information.
